Summer 2022 Announcement
We are happy to announce that group classes will be starting at Canine Academy on Saturday May 7, 2022. Classes will be held weekly at 10:00 here at our facility. No classes will be held June 11, July 2, August 6 or September 3rd.
If rain or bad weather is in the forecast for that morning, classes will be cancelled.
Group classes are only available for past training clients who want more practice with their dogs in a challenging environment. Each week we will work on a different command. No enrollment or sign up is required. As classes are outside, please dress accordingly with the weather and be prepared as the field could be muddy. Bring all your training gear (including collar and a 15-ft leash), a place cot if you have one, and plenty of treats.
If your dog is dog/people aggressive or reactive, for everyone’s safety, they MUST be muzzled. Reactive and potentially reactive dogs will also be asked to wear a red bandana (which we will provide) to signal to others in the group class not to approach the dog.
May Focus
“Back to the Basics”
May’s classes will focus on refreshing the basics to help clean up dogs that have gotten a little sloppy and to refresh our dog owners with the true expectation of each completed command. We will spend some time on each of the basic obedience commands. This will be a very simple group lesson with not too many challenges but still a good challenge to have to work around other dogs.
- Week 1: Refresher of all commands
- Week 2: Focus on walk/heel and off-leash distractions
- Week 3: Place and Recall with distraction
- Week 4: Long distance work. Recalls from further away, holding sit, place, and down when handler walks away
