Canine Academy is Ohio’s best dog trainer specializing in positive reinforcement training methodologies. We designed our methods to improve communication between dog and owner, leading to a happier life for both.

Canine Academy offers board and train packages focusing on Basic Obedience and Public Access training for your best canine companion. While your dog is in our care, we’ll focus on positive socialization, nurturing, and training them. When you travel back through, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about succeeding with your dog’s new skills.

What to Expect from Canine Academy

Canine Academy has worked with many long-haul truck drivers successfully to help them create the companion of their dreams. At the end of the training, your dog will have learned basic obedience commands including:

  • Sit, down, and place (with implied stay)
  • Come to heel when called
  • Walking on leash
  • Walking off-leash with defined radius
  • “All Done!” (release command)
  • “Off” with redirect (command to stop unwanted behavior)
  • Stay in a spot until released
  • Waiting at thresholds for release

For dogs that pursue Public Access training, we’ll also teach them how to behave in busy public places while remaining attentive to you.

Dog Training Commitment and Support:

Every dog leaving our board and train program must achieve a “good” or “excellent” result against our training standards. After the first phase of training is over, you can expect a progress report. During the next 90 days, your trainer will guide you through even more improvement.

Further, our dog behaviorists commit to supporting your dog’s long-term obedience training success. Tuition includes scheduled follow-up appointments to make sure that your new dog training skills transition well to your home life. Finally, our trainers are available for support during scheduled office hours so that you can connect with them in person or over the phone. Your skills will never go stale.

Our Dog Training Methods:

Our dog behaviorist trainers spend a lot of time getting to know what makes your dog tick. Positive reinforcement dog training is about providing consistent reward. Without treats in your pocket, motivating your dog by play and praise – issued the way your dog wants it – makes dog obedience training stick for life.

Beyond identifying the most effective reward for positive reinforcement, our dog trainers also use e collars to provide a very low level stimulus during both commands and praise. Our proprietary Positive E Collar methodology enhances the communication between dog and owner. This enhanced communication builds trust and produces effective training outcomes. We believe that you can teach a dog obedience training without causing the dog any physical pain through an e collar.

Along with your leash, your voice and your nonverbal cues, your e collar is just another tool in your toolbox. But your e collar allows you to communicate with your dog at even longer distances. With your new tool and our dog obedience training methods, you’ll access a level of freedom in nature and in public access.

For long haul truckers who spend extended periods away from home, owning a dog can provide many benefits.

Firstly, having a furry companion can help to combat loneliness and provide emotional support. Dogs are known to be loyal and affectionate, and having one around can help to alleviate feelings of isolation and boost overall well-being.

Secondly, dogs can also provide a sense of security, especially when parked at rest stops or in unfamiliar areas. Their presence can act as a deterrent to potential threats and provide an added layer of protection.

Thirdly, dogs require regular exercise and attention, which can help long haul truckers to maintain a healthy routine and break up the monotony of driving. Walking and playing with a dog can also provide a much-needed break and help to reduce stress levels.

Overall, owning a dog can bring many benefits for long haul truckers, providing companionship, security, and a healthy outlet for physical and emotional needs.

While owning a dog can bring many benefits for long haul truckers, there are also some potential drawbacks to consider. Firstly, dogs require a significant amount of time and attention. Long haul truckers may not always be able to provide the necessary care, exercise, and attention that a dog needs, particularly during long trips where they may need to drive for extended periods without breaks. Secondly, dogs can be expensive, with costs including food, veterinary care, and supplies. Long haul truckers may need to factor in these expenses when considering whether to own a dog.

Overall, while owning a dog can bring many benefits, long haul truckers must carefully consider the time, expense, and logistical considerations before deciding whether to bring a furry companion on the road with them.

Dog obedience is essential for long haul truckers who own dogs as it ensures that the dog can be controlled and well-behaved in different situations. When driving a truck, a trucker needs to maintain focus on the road and handle their dog safely and effectively.

Having a well-trained dog can help prevent distractions while driving, such as excessive barking or jumping around the cab. A trained dog will also follow basic commands such as “stay” or “come,” making it easier for the trucker to handle their dog when necessary. Additionally, a well-trained dog can be more secure during stops, preventing them from running away or getting lost. Dogs that are obedient are also less likely to engage in aggressive behavior towards other animals or people, reducing the risk of legal complications.

Overall, obedience training is crucial for long haul truckers with dogs to ensure that they can handle their pets safely and effectively while on the road.
